Are You Truly Committed?

ARE YOU TRULY COMMITTED?

Job 1:1-12, 19-21

"Lord, I am committed to you" has become a mantra in the lives of many Christians, however, are your actions and beliefs living up to those words? We have become a people that repeat what we hear others say or what the preacher tells us to say. Now is the time for us to truly place in our hearts and minds that we are 100% committed to Christ.

I am reminded of a story of a Chicken and a Pig that lived on a farm. The farmer was very good to both of them and they wanted to do something good for him in return.  One day the chicken approached the pig and said, “I have a great idea for something we can do for the farmer! Would you like to help?”  The pig, quite intrigued by this, said, “of course! What is it that you propose?”  The chicken knew how much the farmer enjoyed a good healthy breakfast. He also knew how little time the farmer had to make a good breakfast. “I think the farmer would be very happy if we made him breakfast.” said the chicken.  The pig thought about this and although he was not as close to the farmer, he too knew of the farmer’s love for a good breakfast. “I’d be happy to help you make breakfast for the farmer! What do you suggest we make? said the pig”

The chicken, understanding that he had little else to offer suggested, “I could provide some eggs.” The pig knew the farmer might want more, “That’s a fine start. What else should we make? ”The chicken looked around…scratched his head…then said, “ham? The farmer loves ham and eggs! ”The pig, very mindful of what this implied, said, “that’s fine, but while you’re contributing, I’m making a real commitment!”

Many of us say we are committed to Christ, however, are you truly sold out for God.  Here in this story, it says that the chicken has a relationship with the farmer.  It intimates that the chicken is closer to the farmer than the pig.  However when all is said and done, the chicken is not willing to give entirely of himself to make the farmer happy.  How many of us are like this chicken.  We profess to be truly committed to God, however, at the first sign of a crisis, we hold on God.  At the first sign of trouble, we start doubting the will of God.  When tribulations come our way we fail to be truly committed to God.  In our times of crises, when we are sick we should shout, our troubles should produce a testimony, our burdens should let us know that our blessings are on the way.  Your gloom denotes his glory.  We know that they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.

Don't be like the chicken, and give a partial praise.  Let your crisis bring out your true commitment to God.
